Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance at Churston Ferrers Grammar School

At Churston, we have a vibrant community that shares a common view that pastoral support, academic momentum within the classroom and enrichment experiences go hand in hand towards developing and nurturing our pupils’ character, talents and wellbeing.  Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance is an important aspect of student life at Churston and we continually review and improve our offer to reflect the talent and interests of our students.  We aim to provide a progressive programme of meaningful career encounters to raise aspirations and to support our students to make informed decisions about their future educational, training and employment opportunities.  Our parents/carers and wider community also contribute to this aim and, wherever possible, we engage support from employers to bring curriculum subjects to life so that students understand the relevance of their academic and enrichment experiences to their future success.

Relevant Policies

Our Careers Policy was adopted by the governing body in February 2020. It is next due for review in January 2023. Our Provider Access Policy was adopted by the governing body in March 2019. This policy was reviewed in March 2021. We are very keen for employers to support our CEIAG activities listed in our Provider Access Policy and within the Annual Careers Provision document (link below). Employers who are interested in supporting these activities should contact our Careers Leader to discuss the most suitable opportunity.

Evaluation of Careers Provision at Churston Ferrers Grammar School

The impact of our careers programme is evaluated at several points through the year using the Compass Plus evaluation tool.  This evaluation is overseen by our regional Careers and Enterprise Company – Coordinator (Torbay & Plymouth) and the school Careers Leader and monitored by the Careers Link Governor.  Evaluation is further accomplished through a variety of methods including a range of written evaluation/feedback from pupils, parents, staff and employers.
