We couldn't be prouder of Harvey and Reuben, who did an outstanding job representing our school at the SWAT (South West Academic Trust) Challenge Cup at Exeter University!
The SWAT Challenge Cup is an annual academic competition that challenges student teams from selective schools in the Southwest to present a solution to a difficult, cross-curricular problem.
Presenting their vision of the school of the future to a panel of education leaders from across the region, our Churston team impressed everyone with their confidence, thoughtful ideas and passionate focus on student voice.
The judges particularly praised how they used everything they value about our school as the foundation for imagining the perfect school of the future - a wonderful reflection of our community.
A fantastic achievement by both students - well done, Harvey and Reuben!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Year 7 Information Evening last week.
It was fantastic to welcome so many students and Parents/Carers as we looked ahead to an exciting start in September.
The evening gave families the opportunity to:
• Meet key members of staff
• Learn about the Year 7 transition process
• Find out more about our curriculum, pastoral support and school expectations
• Ask questions and receive practical information to help prepare for the new school year
We hope you found the evening informative and reassuring as you begin this exciting new chapter.
We can't wait to see you all in September!

Despite the recent sweltering heatwave, we welcomed prospective students and families to get a feel for The Churston Experience.
A special thank you to all our student helpers and Y9 & Y12 tour guides and staff put on a great show for Thursday’s Open Day and Evening.
Particular mention goes to the MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) classrooms who seemed to have almost a full class-worth of students eager to excite our potential new recruits about the delights of learning French and Spanish!
As Dr Hall prepares to retire at the end of term after an incredible 30 years of inspiring generations of young chemists (17 of which at Churston!) he's making sure one of his most loved traditions lives on.
His famous Open Day coin trick has become something of a Churston legend, and this week he passed the torch to Sahana (Y12), who expertly demonstrated the magic for us.
By heating a copper 2p coin coated in zinc, she transformed it into what appeared to be gold – in fact, beautiful brass.
It's more than just a chemistry demonstration; it's a symbol of the curiosity, wonder and enthusiasm for science that Dr Hall has shared with thousands of students over three decades.
A wonderful legacy, ready for the next generation to carry forward.

Success for Year 10 Scientists
Churston students have competed with over 16,000 students in the National Scientific Thinking Challenge.
This tricky test devised by researchers from the University of Warwick aims to test students’ ability to apply Science skills to a range of everyday scenarios.
Churston students were very successful this year: 8 students posted scores in the top 40% to achieve a bronze medal, with a further 14 making the top 25% to gain a silver medal.
An impressive 10 students appeared in the top 10% to secure a gold medal.
Congratulations to George who gained the top mark in the school with 89%!

Congratulations, Year 11 - part 2!
Our Year 11 students swapped their school uniforms for glitz and glamour at our prom last Friday. It was a wonderful celebration marking another milestone for our Year 11 cohort.
The year group have blown us away with their scholarly dedication through their exams over the last few months; what incredible focus, determination and resilience these students have developed.
Even more importantly than this, they have built strong and caring relationships and formed a community together over the last five years. From their academic scholarship to their commitment to active citizenship, this year group have truly embodied our Churston Ethos and have confidently grown into the well-rounded individuals we are so proud to be sending out into the world.
Whether they are continuing their journey into our Sixth Form or preparing for new adventures in education or employment, we know they leave us with the independence needed for the wider world.
Congratulations to the 2026 cohort—you have worked hard, stayed focused, and truly made the Churston Experience your own and it has been a pleasure to support and guide you as your Head of Year.
Mrs Moss over and out!
