Last Friday was our turn to say goodbye to our Y13s as they head off for study leave before their A-Levels.
Luckily the weather held out for the traditional game of rounders after their Leavers Breakfast. The fancy dress outfits were amazing too!
Good Luck Year 13 - we're so proud of everything you've achieved over the last 7 years. We've seen you grow and develop and it's now nearly time for your Churston journey to end.
You've done all the hard work so show them what you're made of!
See you at the Prom!

Kian (Y13) was part of a team representing Churston at the national finals of this year's UK Space Design Competition.
Having won the regional round in Exeter the team of 12 Churston students qualified for the national final in London where Kian was then elected leader of a team of 60 students from several other schools from all over the UK.
Over the course of 24 hours they worked on an engineering project to design a settlement on the moon. Kian then led a presentation explaining his group's settlement to a panel of judges, for which he personally received an award.
Subsequently he has now been selected to be one of 20 students to attend the International Finals of The International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) at The Kennedy Space Centre in the United States in July.
He has also been awarded one of only 10 fully-funded places (including flights and accommodation)!
"I am very excited for this amazing opportunity and very grateful to my incredible teammates (including his sister Milly, Y11) and the teachers from Churston who helped to support our team." Kian
Congratulations to the whole team, but Kian, in particular for this outstanding achievement!
We are all rooting for you for the competition final and wishing you all the very best of luck with both the trip and bright future you no doubt have ahead.
You've done us proud, Kian!

At times, growing up can be a stressful experience. It’s not unheard of for young people to fret about things that could potentially go wrong in their lives – and what implications this would have for their life. In some situations, this can go beyond feeling uneasy about the future and become full-blown anxiety, which affects their mental, emotional and even physical wellbeing.
While worry and anxiety can originate from many different places, it's immensely important for parents and educators to understand the effect this can have on youngsters – and how best to support them if they’re going through a difficult time. This guide provides insight into the ramifications of worry and anxiety, and how you can help children manage – and hopefully overcome – these challenges.
This #WakeUpWednesday guide explores the impacts of worry and anxiety on children, and offers advice on how to support young people struggling with these experiences.

More pictures of the Class of 26 Y11s who leave us this week for study leave before their GCSEs.
Everyone was in great spirits as staff joined in the obligatory shirt signing ritual on the field. There was some fantastic artwork amidst the emotional messages too!
Good Luck to all our Y11s - we're so proud of everything you've achieved over the last 5 years.
Have an amazing break this summer and we'll look forward to seeing most of you back again as sixth formers!

What an rollercoaster of a week it's been!
Yesterday we said goodbye to our Y11s as they head off for study leave before their GCSEs which started yesterday.
The weather was kind as the whole year group headed out for shirt signing on the field before their Leavers Breakfast yesterday.
As well as some emotional speeches from their form tutors and Head of Year, we shared images and memories of their time here at Churston. We also handed out
the time capsule letters they wrote to their future selves back in Year 7. Lots of tears and giggles - particularly looking back at their Y7 pictures - they all look so little!
Good Luck Year 11 - we're so proud of everything you've achieved over the last 5 years (and especially for those whose Churston journey ends here).
You've done all the hard work and we're all behind you!

As this year's exams loom, we are reminded of our prestigious accolade of being named Highly Commended State Secondary School of the Year 2026!
The Times reports:
Three of the five schools that made the largest gains include Churston Ferrers Grammar School, which rose 147 places to rank 78th in the national table thanks to its impressive A-level results. The school, in Torbay, Devon - one of the more disadvantaged areas in England - is awarded Highly Commended State Secondary School of the Year.
James Simpson, the head teacher, joined two years ago and banned smartphones within his first fortnight in charge. “I want us to move from good to exceptional,” he says. “Together we can make a real difference.”
________________________________________________
A huge well done to last year's Year 11 and Year 13 students and to all the staff supporting them to achieve so highly. I just want us to continue to provide a wonderful, supportive, opportunity-providing education for the community we serve.
James Simpson
