A group of 70 students and seven staff members completed a thrilling, marathon trip to the British Grand Prix in July, experiencing the pinnacle of motorsport live at Silverstone.
The dedicated group began their extraordinary journey before dawn, setting off from the school gates at 4:00 am on Friday morning.
After an action-packed day of world-class racing, high-speed drama, and immersive trackside activities, the exhausted but exhilarated pupils finally returned home early the following morning, capping off a memorable 24-hour educational adventure.
The Friday practice sessions gave students a front-row seat to watch their racing heroes master the iconic Silverstone circuit. Beyond the track, the group explored the latest innovations in engineering, physics, and sports technology within the F1 Fan Zone, offering a unique real-world application of their STEM curriculum.
"This was an unforgettable opportunity for our students to experience an elite global sporting event firsthand," said one of the trip leaders. "The sheer scale of the event, the teamwork in the pit lanes, and the atmospheric energy of Silverstone provided immense inspiration. Setting off at 4:00 am made for a long, demanding day, but the exemplary behaviour and enthusiasm of the students made every single minute worth it."
Student feedback: "It was an amazing experience, especially the excitement of the first cars we saw (and heard) driving past. We saw the F1 practice race which was incredible. There was a stage with a few drivers occasionally going up and lots of food and merch around the site. The day ended in a concert with Richard Ashcroft, Alex James and a few others and a long journey home. Overall the whole day was great. Seeing the cars, track and drivers is an experience I will never forget."
Many thanks to the staff members who volunteered their time to manage the complex logistics and ensure a safe, successful, and inspiring trip for all 70 young motorsport fans.

ACE Week #3: Race Week
Revving up for "Race Week"
Our students pushed their limits and burned some serious rubber across three incredible tracks: Raceworld (Exeter), Dunkeswell Raceway, and Adrenaline Quarry Karting (Liskeard).
After intense qualifying rounds, they went head-to-head in thrilling final races to claim their podium spots!
But the real victory of the week? The feedback from the track staff.
Our students were highly commended for their outstanding politeness, excellent attitude, and sportsmanship - representing our school community flawlessly.
A massive well done to all our drivers. You made us incredibly proud both on and off the track!
At Churston, ACE Week is a much-loved part of the Churston Experience. During the final week of the summer term, our normal timetable is replaced with opportunities for fun, exploration, creativity and hands-on learning.
From sailing, rowing, golf, walking and even circus skills to creative arts, textiles and exciting days out, there was something for everyone. From our Year 7 Camp through to Year 12 work experience, it was wonderful to see students embracing new experiences, developing new skills and making lasting memories.
A huge thank you to all our staff who led and supported the wide range of activities and made another unforgettable ACE Week possible.

ACE Week Experience #2: Learn to Row
During ACE week, some of our students have been hitting the River Dart for a fantastic introduction to rowing!
Guided by Lead Coach Andy, and a fantastic team of volunteers, students are diving headfirst into a brand-new challenge.
Throughout the week, they are learning technique on indoor rowing machines, practising boat handling and taking to the water in fine racing quads, singles and doubles.
It’s all about building water confidence, learning to work as a crew, and -most importantly - having fun.
The week culminated in some high-energy, side-by-side fun races right past the clubhouse!
For students who catch the rowing bug, Dart Totnes ARC is offering an accelerated Learn to Row course to help them transition into the Junior squad and competition.
