Welcome to Churston Sixth Form
The only co-educational grammar school in the bay, Churston Ferrers Grammar School has a forward-looking approach in Years 12 and 13. You’re getting ready to move on to university or work, so as well as helping you get the grades you need, we prepare you in plenty of other ways, from work experience to mock interviews, UCAS fairs to individual careers advice and help with meetings with employers.
We have a reputation for strong pastoral support and a laid back approach. That’s because we know how demanding A levels are, so we make sure you have a supportive and relaxing environment to study in.
Modern style…
We believe that in Sixth Form you should be treated as an adult. Our sixth formers have their own separate building (completed in 2012), wear their own clothes, and are all given their own Google Chromebook to take advantage of the most up-to-date learning styles.
…traditional standards
However, as a grammar school we expect our students to work hard and we’ll make sure you don’t fall behind. Our Sixth Form has a natural atmosphere of good behaviour and commitment to study, which explains our excellent results at A-level.
“I found joining Churston Sixth Form easy and enjoyable. Everyone was welcoming and friendly, and I love the lessons.” – Rose, Year 12
We’re very proud to be one of the top 150 state schools in the UK. However, league tables tell only part of the story. We’ve made it a deliberate policy to set the bar to Sixth Form admissions low enough to include as many able students as possible, while remaining selective enough to keep everyone working at a high level. We prefer to measure our success by the value that we add to each individual student’s grades, so we’ll make sure that you get the best results you’re capable of.
