It’s a challenge keeping close on a thousand teenagers well fed throughout the day, so they feel happy and can learn well. We have a main dining hall which is open for breakfast from 8.10am, and at lunchtime (P4, P5).
What kind of food do we serve?
Catering Manager Steve Boxall and his team prepare and make most of the meals here, and serve the following food fresh daily:
- A hot main meal
- Dessert
- Fresh vegetable soup (during the winter)
- Sandwiches, wraps, and baguettes
- Pizza
- Pasta
- Jacket potatoes
- Burgers (often homemade, always 100% meat)
- Wedges
- Fresh fruit pots
We also have a salad bar every day. We do our best to encourage healthy eating, so chips are on offer just twice a week, always alongside a main meal, and we sell only drinks without added sugar. We use local suppliers wherever we can, and we always have vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Payment
We use a cashless payment system that works on biometrics (or a pin number if preferred). You can top up the credit on this system via Arbor, and view past purchases. It’s a non-profit making operation, so we keep prices as low as we can.
Sixth Form
The Sixth Form Centre has its own food outlet, serving snacks and toasted sandwiches, along with a few extras not available lower down the school, such as chocolate, and tea & coffee. Sixth Formers are always welcome to buy food from the main dining at lunchtime.
