Churston Grammar appoints new Headteacher

Churston Ferrers Grammar School has appointed Kieran Earley as Headteacher from September. He will take over from Bob Owers, who announced his retirement last year after 12 years as Head.

Mr Earley has spent the last four years running The British School in the Netherlands in The Hague. Before that, he was Headteacher at Devonport High School for Boys in Plymouth.

He said, “I am delighted and proud to have been appointed as Headteacher. I have always admired Churston’s ability to balance outstanding academic outcomes with a deeply caring and supportive culture.

“My international experience has enabled me to see the world but I’m looking forward to a return to the West Country and a new professional challenge. Even though this will be my third headship I’m feeling the weight of responsibility; there are some big shoes to fill!”

Churston’s Chair of Governors Roni Jay commented, “Bob Owers has been an outstanding headteacher who has consolidated the school’s academic reputation and made care, support and inclusiveness an inseparable part of the school’s character.

“We are delighted to have appointed Kieran Earley, who will nurture and build on these strengths. We are impressed in particular by his understanding of the need to excite and challenge academically able students, his enthusiasm for nurturing and developing staff, and his instinct always to put students at the centre of every decision.”
