Earlier this week, our Year 9 students got a taste of life beyond GCSEs during our Sixth Form Experience Morning. Hosted by our fantastic Year 12 student leaders, the morning began with an insightful Q&A, giving Year 9 the opportunity to hear first-hand about Sixth Form life, study and opportunities at Churston. Students then stepped into a range of exciting A Level taster lessons, exploring subjects including Psychology, Politics, Sociology, Economics and Photography. We hope the experience has inspired students to start thinking about their future pathways. ACE Week #4: Fantasy Week Reality has officially been left behind! As part of ACE Week at Churston Grammar, our students were deep inside a world of myth, magic, and masterful strategy. Fantasy Week is in full swing, and the artroom was transformed into a bustling hub of creators, tacticians, and legendary heroes. The energy across the classroom was electric as campaigns unfold and worlds were forged in real-time. Here is what our adventurers are conquering at this very moment: World-Building & Crafting: Students are channeling their inner world-builders, bringing entire universes to life from scratch as they design intricate fantasy maps. Right alongside them, artisans are carefully building and painting highly detailed miniature models, transforming blank figures into legendary creatures and heroes. Epic Campaigns Unfolding: The dice are rolling! Legendary sagas are playing out right now as players step into the shoes of cunning rogues, sturdy dwarfs, powerful wizards, and vital healers, working together to navigate the perils of Dungeons & Dragons. Grand Strategy & High Stakes: Minds are clashing over the gaming tables. Tactical geniuses are currently trading resources for dominance in Catan, braving the brutal, cooperative depths of the Warhammer Quest card game, and testing their colorful perception in fast-paced rounds of Hues and Cues. This is a spectacular showcase of boundless creativity, teamwork, and sharp wit. The battles are raging, the maps are expanding and Churston's finest are proving that greatness awaits around every corner. Stay focused adventurers, the quest continues! At Churston, ACE Week is a much-loved part of the Churston Experience. What a wonderful way to round off another fantastic year of music at Churston. Our Summer Concert celebrated the incredible talent, dedication and hard work of students across all year groups, with performances from the school orchestra, funk band, string group, choir and a series of outstanding soloists. The evening was particularly special as we said farewell to our Year 13 musicians, who have made such a significant contribution to music at Churston over the years. Their final performances were met with a well-deserved standing ovation – a fitting tribute to their talent, commitment and passion. Thank you to everyone who performed, supported and attended. A group of 70 students and seven staff members completed a thrilling, marathon trip to the British Grand Prix in July, experiencing the pinnacle of motorsport live at Silverstone. The dedicated group began their extraordinary journey before dawn, setting off from the school gates at 4:00 am on Friday morning. After an action-packed day of world-class racing, high-speed drama, and immersive trackside activities, the exhausted but exhilarated pupils finally returned home early the following morning, capping off a memorable 24-hour educational adventure. The Friday practice sessions gave students a front-row seat to watch their racing heroes master the iconic Silverstone circuit. Beyond the track, the group explored the latest innovations in engineering, physics, and sports technology within the F1 Fan Zone, offering a unique real-world application of their STEM curriculum. "This was an unforgettable opportunity for our students to experience an elite global sporting event firsthand," said one of the trip leaders. "The sheer scale of the event, the teamwork in the pit lanes, and the atmospheric energy of Silverstone provided immense inspiration. Setting off at 4:00 am made for a long, demanding day, but the exemplary behaviour and enthusiasm of the students made every single minute worth it." Student feedback: "It was an amazing experience, especially the excitement of the first cars we saw (and heard) driving past. We saw the F1 practice race which was incredible. There was a stage with a few drivers occasionally going up and lots of food and merch around the site. The day ended in a concert with Richard Ashcroft, Alex James and a few others and a long journey home. Overall the whole day was great. Seeing the cars, track and drivers is an experience I will never forget." Congratulations to Jack, Aaron, Ben, Ollie, Chevy and Louis on taking on the National Three Peaks Challenge. A special mention goes to Jack and Aaron, who completed all three peaks in under 24 hours, finishing with just 15 seconds to spare - an incredible achievement. Ben also completed the challenge, finishing in 24 hours and 15 minutes, while Ollie successfully reached the summit of the first two peaks. Chevy and Louis completed Ben Nevis and made it halfway up Scafell Pike, showing great determination throughout the challenge. The Three Peaks is a tough test of endurance and every member of the group should be proud of their efforts.
