The aim of Independent Study

The overriding aim of the independent study course is to enable the students at Churston Ferrers Grammar School (CFGS) to develop into confident, resilient independent learners.  The course structure will provide students with opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills and cultural capital they need to succeed, both at school and in their future careers.  We strive to stimulate our pupils to discover both their unique potential and their personal interests, in order to enthuse them to develop a lifelong love of learning.

The Study Centre has recently been redesigned for the Independent Learning lessons and where possible, lessons are timetabled in this room.  The lessons are 75 minutes long, of which the students spend 20 minutes studying a core programme of Mathematics and English, on alternate weeks.  These first 20 minutes have been designed to support the individual student’s needs in the two most fundamental school subjects.  During the remaining 55 minutes, the students will be developing their digital & study skills, carrying out problem based learning, developing their revision technique and carrying out a structured independent project with a clear purpose.  If you are interested in finding out more about the course, please access the Independent Learning website via the CFGS home page or by using the link below.  In order for the website to work, you will need to be logged into a email account.
